January Kindness Day is right around the corner!

Hello friends! It's Elena again!

How well were you being kind in December? It is a new year with a fresh start so now you have the choice to be kind or you can be extra kind in the year of 2016! I hope you choose to be extra kind this month!!

This month I am going to give you ten suggestions on how to be extra kind, especially on Kindness Day, January 13th!

1. Play with someone you have never played with before
2. Hold a door open!
3. Help the librarian at your school with all those books that need to be shelved!!
4. Write a card to someone in your school or send it to a soldier overseas.
5. Write an acrostic poem about a person in your class.
6. Leave secret happy notes for your classmates or teacher.
7. Write a note of appreciation to your teacher or principal.
8. Sit with someone who is sitting alone on the bus.
9. Do one extra chore without being asked.
10. Bring a special treat to your local police or fire station!

This month I would like to know if you did any of these random acts of kindness - if you did, please email me at CKGElena@kidgovernor.org so I can give you a special shout out in my next blog post!

Have a fun month being extra kind!! Talk to you soon!!

CKG Elena outlines the first point of her Campaign for Kindness

CKG Elena recently sat down with the Connecticut Network’s (CT-N) Diane Smith. They discussed the first point of her Campaign for Kindness as well as her background, what led her to choose kindness as her platform, and ideas for how we can all be kind to others.

How will you be kind to someone on the next Kindness Day, January 13, 2016? Share your ideas in the comments section below or email Elena at CKGElena@kidgovernor.org. Maybe your idea will get a shout-out in Elena’s next post!

A Message from your Friends at Connecticut’s Old State House

Welcome to Kindness is Kool, the official blog of  Connecticut's Kid Governor Elena Tipton! This is a place where you and our first ever Kid Governor can share ideas about how kids can make our state better through Governor Elena’s Campaign for Kindness.

If you voted in the election, you know that Elena has a 3-point plan for Kindness. If this is new for you, you can learn about it in her campaign video and other places on the Connecticut’s Kid Governor website at CT.KidGovernor.org.

As Elena says in her first blog post below, the first point in her platform is to make the 13th of every month (including today) Kindness Day!

Your job is to check the blog every month, a couple of days before the 13th, to find Elena’s suggestions for kindness. You can email your own ideas to her at CKGElena@kidgovernor.org, and then take action on the 13th and encourage your friends and family to do the same! You can report back to the blog about what you did and what the results were by emailing your story to Elena or commenting on her posts.

Meanwhile, at Connecticut's Old State House, we’ll share some of your Kindness is Kool stories with our museum visitors in the Kid Governor’s Office and Civics Action Lab!

A Message from Kid Governor Elena Tipton

Hello kids of Connecticut!

My name is Elena and I am your first Kid Governor. I have a campaign and my campaign is all about kindness. You and your class can help me by telling me all about what you did to be kind.

I have three points or goals I want to hit. I will fill you in on two of my goals later, but one of my first goals is to make the thirteenth of every month Kindness Day! A couple of days before the thirteenth I hope to be able to share ten suggestions on how you can be kind that day!

If you have a suggestion please let me know and maybe your suggestion will be featured!
